NGC 1931 (Herschel HI 261) ist ein kombinierter Emissions- und Reflexionsnebel, der auch kleiner Orionnebel oder "The Fly" genannt wird. Er liegt im Sternbild Auriga und in unmittelbarer Himmels-Nachbarschaft von IC 417.
Der junge Sternhaufen aus etwa 20 Sternen, der sich in NGC 1931 gebildet hat, ist als Stock 9 katalogisiert. Der Nebel soll in einer Entfernung von etwa 4000 - 7000 Lj. liegen (Angaben nicht eindeutig), hat eine Winkelausdehnung von 3.0' × 3.0' und eine scheinbare Helligkeit von +10,10 mag.
Er hat als Analogie zu M42 sogar ein Trapez, dessen beiden helleren Sterne auf allen Aufnahmen, die man findet, leicht länglich erscheinen (nicht getrennte Doppelsterne?)
